NEW DELHI – A vessel named Green Sanvi, which was carrying 46,650 tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas has safely passed through the Strait of Hormuz, the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas said Saturday. The vessel also had 25 seafarers onboard.
A total of 17 Indian-flagged vessels, with 460 Indian seafarers, remain in the western Persian Gulf region now, the ministry said in a release. "All Indian seafarers in the region are safe, with no incidents involving Indian-flagged vessels reported in the past 24 hours," the release added.
Considering the available inventory and scheduled qualified natural gas cargo arrivals, the government has also decided to increase gas supply to fertiliser plants to 90% of their average consumption over the preceding six months from the 70–75% limit imposed earlier. The new supply limit will be effective Monday, according to the press release. "Additionally, gas supply to other industrial and commercial sectors, including supplies through CGD (city gas distribution) networks, will be enhanced by a further 10% effective Monday," the release said.
In view of the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz since the onset of the West Asia conflict, which has pushed the price of Brent Crude over $100 a barrel, the government has announced a slew of measures to insulate the economy. Last week, the government cut excise duty on petrol and diesel by INR 10 per litre to offset under-recoveries by oil marketing companies and ensure they continue sourcing crude oil and maintain domestic fuel supply without raising retail prices. The government also capped the price hike on aviation turbine fuel by oil marketing companies at 25% for airlines operating on domestic routes.
The release reiterated that there is sufficient fuel inventory in the country, with no dry-outs reported at any petrol pump or liquefied petroleum gas distribution agency. Agencies reported the delivery of 5.1 million LPG cylinders Friday, the release said. End
