NEW DELHI - The government is likely to soon announce more measures to provide relief to exporters from higher freight costs due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz amid the ongoing conflict in West Asia, a government official told mediapersons Thursday. The government last month announced a new initiative, Resilience & Logistics Intervention for Export Facilitation, or RELIEF, with an outlay of INR 4.97 billion to shield exporters from rising freight and insurance costs.
Indian exports have shown exemplary resilience so far, the official said. As of Mar. 21, growth in India's goods exports was flat compared to last year, the official added. India had exported goods worth $42.05 billion in March 2025.
The government has structured the INR-5-billion package to support exporters by covering shipments that are facing disruptions in West Asia as well as prospective exports planned to the region affected by the war. Under the approved intervention, the government has designated ECGC Ltd. as the nodal and implementing agency responsible for verification, claim processing, disbursement and monitoring. End
