Coal output from captive, commercial mines up 10% YoY at 210.46 mln tn FY26

MUMBAI – Production of coal from captive and commercial mines reached 210.46 million tonnes in 2025-26 (Apr-Mar), up over 10% on year, the Ministry of Coal said in a release Thursday. Coal dispatches rose over 7% on year to 204.61 million tonnes in FY26.
In FY26, 12 captive and commercial coal blocks were operationalised through the grant of mine opening permission, significantly expanding the operational coal mining base by adding more than 86 million tonnes of annual production capacity, it said. Seven blocks also commenced coal production in FY26. End
