IMD sees hailstorms over most of northwest India over next 4-5 days

MUMBAI - Hailstorms are likely over parts of Jammu and Kashmir from Friday to Saturday and Tuesday, over Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Rajasthan from Friday to Saturday, Uttarakhand on Saturday, west Uttar Pradesh over the weekend, and east Uttar Pradesh on Sunday, the India Meteorological Department said. Similar weather conditions are expected over parts of Madhya Pradesh till Saturday and over Chhattisgarh on Saturday, the weather department said.
Currently, a western disturbance lies over east Iran and adjoining Afghanistan, and an upper air cyclonic circulation lies over east Rajasthan. A trough runs from east Rajasthan to east central Arabian Sea across Gujarat, the weather bureau said. These weather systems are also likely to cause heavy rainfall over parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad Fri-Sat. Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are likely over most parts of northwest India till Wednesday, the bureau said. Thundersqualls with wind speeds reaching 50–60 km per hour and gusting to 70 km per hour are likely over parts of the region from Friday to Sunday, the bureau said.
A wet spell with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds is expected over parts of central India in the next five days, the weather bureau said. Thundersqualls are likely over parts of the region from Friday to Saturday, the bureau said.
Light to moderate showers accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are likely over parts of central Maharashtra on Saturday and over Marathwada over the weekend, the weather department said. Thundersqualls are expected over the same regions till Friday, the department said.
An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over central Assam, which is expected to cause heavy rainfall over parts of Arunachal Pradesh from Monday to Wednesday and over Assam and Meghalaya on Sunday and Monday, the weather bureau said. Light to moderate rainfall is expected over several parts of northeast India till Monday, the bureau said.
A trough runs from interior Tamil Nadu to central Konkan across interior Karnataka, the weather department said. Under the influence of this weather system, light to moderate showers accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are expected over several parts of south peninsular India till Monday, the department said.
Hot and humid weather conditions are likely to prevail in pockets of Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha till Saturday, the weather bureau said. An alert for hot and humid weather is issued when maximum temperatures remain 3 degrees Celsius above normal, along with above-normal relative humidity. End
