NEW DELHI – India has allowed the export of specified quantities of essential food items and construction materials to the Republic of Maldives for 2026-27 (Apr-Mar) under the bilateral trade agreement between the two countries, according to a notification by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade Wednesday. The government has permitted export of 448.9 million eggs, 230,429 tonnes of rice, 114,621 tonnes of wheat flour, 67,719 tonnes of sugar, 37,537 tonnes of onions, 22,589 tonnes of potatoes, and 350 tonnes of pulses.
The Centre has also permitted shipments of stone aggregate and river sand of up to 1.3 million tonnes each to the Maldives, according to the notification. It said that for the exports of these two items, CAPEXIL--a body to promote the export of chemical and allied products--will ensure that the suppliers/extractors have obtained appropriate environmental clearances and that mining of the sand is not conducted in the coastal regulation zone areas, which is prohibited under the coastal regulation zone notification.
These shipments will be exempted from any existing or future export restrictions during FY27, the notification said. It added that the export of these commodities will be permited only from six ports – Mundra Sea port, Tuticorin Sea port, Nhava Sheva Sea port, ICD Tughlakabad, Kandla Sea port, and Visakhapatnam Sea port.
