NEW DELHI – US President Donald Trump Wednesday said his Iranian counterpart, Masoud Pezeshkian, has asked Washington for a ceasefire in the war in West Asia. The US will consider the Iranian president's call after the Strait of Hormuz is "open, free, and clear," Trump said in a social media post.
Describing Iran's president as "much less radicalized and far more intelligent than his predecessors...", Trump said he "has just asked the United States of America for a CEASEFIRE!" However, Trump said that until the waterway connecting the Persian Gulf with the Arabian Sea is opened, "...we are blasting Iran into oblivion or, as they say, back to the Stone Ages!!!"
On Feb. 28, the US and Israel had launched a joint military attack on Iran. Iran retaliated with missile attacks on Israel and on US bases in West Asia. It also shut the Strait of Hormuz through which a fifth of the world's crude oil passes. This hit global petroleum supply, resulting in Brent Crude prices rising up to $120 per barrel. Tuesday, Trump told reporters he expects US military forces to leave Iran in "two or three weeks". End
