Great Eastern Shipping to buy second-hand medium-range tanker in Jun qtr

MUMBAI – The Great Eastern Shipping Co. Ltd. Wednesday said it entered into a contract to buy a second-hand medium-range tanker of about 49,420 deadweight tonnage. The vessel, built in 2014, is expected to join the company's fleet in the June quarter. The purchase of the vessel will be financed entirely from internal accruals, the company said in an exchange filing.
The purpose of the acquisition is to expand the company's fleet. Currently, the company's owned fleet comprises 40 vessels, including 26 tankers and 14 dry bulk carriers, with a total deadweight tonnage of 3.20 million. The company's current capacity utilisation is close to 100%, as per the filing.
Additionally, the company has entered into a contract to buy one second-hand Kamsarmax dry bulk carrier. This purchase transaction is also expected to be completed in the June quarter, the company said.
For the December quarter, on a consolidated basis, Great Eastern Shipping had reported a net profit of INR 8.13 billion on a revenue of INR 14.54 billion. Wednesday, its shares closed 3.2% higher at INR 1,460.10 on the National Stock Exchange. End
