Coal India output down 1.5% YoY at 84.5 mln tn in Mar, down 1.7% in FY26

AHMEDABAD – Coal India Ltd. reported a 0.7% year-on-year decline in sales to 69.5 million tonnes in March as coal production fell 1.5% to 84.5 million tonnes, according to provisional data released by the company Wednesday. For 2025-26 (Apr-Mar), the company's offtake fell 2.4% on year to 744.8 million tonnes and production was down 1.7% on year at 768.1 million tonnes.
The company's subsidiary Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd. reported the provisional coal production of 20.5 million tonnes, down 7.5% on year. South Eastern Coalfields Ltd. was the second highest contributor to Coal India's overall production, reporting 7% on-year fall to 19.4 million tonnes for March.
Mahanadi Coalfields was the front-runner among Coal India's subsidiaries in terms of sales as well, reporting an offtake of 19.6 million tonnes in March, up 8.2% on year. South Eastern Coalfields reported the second-highest sales figures of 16.7 million tonnes, up 7.5% on year.
For the December quarter, Coal India had reported consolidated net profit of INR 71.57 billion on revenue of INR 349.24 billion. At 1325 IST, its shares traded 0.1% higher at INR 451 on the National Stock Exchange. End
