MUMBAI – Under the influence of multiple weather systems, hailstorms are likely over parts of sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, central Maharashtra, and Marathawada till Tuesday and over Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh till Wednesday, the India Meteorological Department said.
Currently, an east-west trough runs from northeast Bihar to Manipur across north Bangladesh, Meghalaya, and southeast Assam, while another trough runs from Bihar to Gangetic West Bengal across Jharkhand, the weather department said. A trough runs from west Vidarbha to south Tamil Nadu across Marathwada and interior Karnataka, while another trough in the easterlies runs from the Comorin area to north interior Karnataka across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and south interior Karnataka. A trough runs from the aforementioned upper air cyclonic circulation to northeast Arabian Sea across west Rajasthan, the weather department said. Another upper air cyclonic circulation lies over northwest Uttar Pradesh, the department said. Under the influence of these weather systems, a wet spell accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds is expected over most parts of northwest India till Tuesday, it said.
A second western disturbance is expected to affect northwest India from Thursday, causing light to moderate rainfall or snowfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over most parts of the region till Sunday, the weather department said.
