MUMBAI – One of Dalmia Bharat Ltd.'s three kilns in Rajgangpur, Odisha, was shut for 14 days in March due to a "sudden breakdown". Due to this, the company's cement sales in the eastern market was hit by 250,000-350,000 tonnes in March, according to an exchange filing.

The hit accounts for around 3.5% of its consolidated sales volume in the December quarter, when it had sold 7.3 million tonnes of cement. The kiln in Odisha provides clinker to the company's grinding units in Odisha, West Bengal, and Jharkhand.

The kiln broke down on Mar. 13 and could only begin operations by Mar. 27 after the company carried out repairs, the filing said. "We regret the disruption in supplies to our esteemed channel partners during this peak demand period due to this unforeseen event," it said. "We would like to reassure them that all necessary measures are being undertaken to normalize our supply chains at the earliest."

For the quarter ended December, Dalmia Bharat reported a consolidated net profit of INR 1.22 billion on revenue of INR 35.06 billion. On Friday, its shares closed at INR 1,857.40 on the National Stock Exchange, down more than 1%.  End
