MUMBAI – Uncertainties surrounding the ongoing war in West Asia are likely to continue to impact domestic cement stocks next week, with a negative bias remaining in the sector. Only a de-escalation of the war is likely to reverse the trend in the sector, according to technical analysts.
"The short-term momentum will depend on the global geopolitical news flows and, hence, until there are signs of de-escalation of the war, it is better to keep a wait-and-watch approach," Ruchit Jain, head of technical research at Motilal Oswal, said.
The recent surge in fuel costs on the back of the West Asia conflict will continue to impact cement stocks, analysts said. "Rising pet coke and coal prices, higher costs of packaging bags, and the recent hike in industrial diesel prices are expected to hold the negative sentiment around the cement stocks," Harsh Mittal, research analyst at Emkay Global Financial Services, said.
According to Nomura Financial Advisory and Securities, an approximate 25% rise in industrial diesel prices announced by oil marketing companies may impact its key customers, including construction companies.
Brokerage Nirmal Bang Equities expects materials, including cement, to see the big impact on margins due to elevated crude oil prices. Shares of cement companies have recently undergone a sharp correction due to rising crude oil prices. The West Asia crisis has also put cost pressure on these stocks.
