IMD sees hailstorms over parts of central India on Sun, Maharashtra Mon-Tue

MUMBAI – Hailstorms are expected in parts of Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh on Sunday under the influence of a trough which runs from northwest Rajasthan to southwest Madhya Pradesh, the India Meteorological Department said. Another trough runs from Marathwada to coastal Karnataka, which is likely to cause similar weather over parts of central Maharashtra and Marathwada on Monday and Tuesday, the weather department said.
These weather systems are also likely to cause light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over parts of Madhya Pradesh from Sunday to Tuesday, and over Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh over the next seven days. Similar weather is expected over parts of central Maharashtra and Marwathwada on Sunday, over Gujarat on Sunday and Monday, and over coastal Maharashtra on Monday, the weather bureau said.
An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining West Bengal, while another such weather system lies over Odisha, the weather bureau said. Under the influence of these twin weather systems, heavy rainfall, hailstorms, and
thundersqualls with wind speeds reaching 50–60 km per hour and gusting to 70 km per hour are expected over parts of sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on Saturday, the bureau said. Light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning is also expected over the same regions till Tuesday, the bureau said.
A wet spell accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds, is expected over parts of Bihar over the weekend, over Jharkhand on Saturday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, and over Odisha from Monday to Thursday, it said. A trough runs from northwest Bihar to Manipur, and an upper air cyclonic circulation lies over northeast Assam which is expected to cause light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over most parts of northeast India till Tuesday, with a few spells of heavy rainfall till Thursday, the department said.
A western disturbance acting as a trough lies to the northwest of India, while another fresh western disturbance acting as an upper air cyclonic circulation lies over west Iran, the weather bureau said. An upper cyclonic circulation lies over central Rajasthan, the bureau said. A combination of these weather systems is likely to cause light to moderate rainfall or snowfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over most parts of northwest India till Tuesday, the bureau said. Heavy rainfall or snowfall is likely over parts of the Kashmir valley on Monday, it said.
A wet spell with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds is likely over most parts of south peninsular India till Thursday, the weather department said. Hot and humid weather conditions are expected over parts of coastal Karnataka till Sunday. End
