Global alumina production down 10% on month in Feb, says aluminium institute

MUMBAI – Global alumina production fell over 10% on month to 11.82 million tonnes in February, according to data from the International Aluminium Institute. On a yearly basis, alumina production was up 0.5% from 11.76 million tonnes.

 

The average daily global alumina production fell to 422,000 tonnes in February from the revised 424,300 tonnes in January, as per the data. Alumina production in China fell to 7.05 million tonnes in February from 7.92 million tonnes in January. The country's output, which accounts for 60% of global alumina production, was down 0.7% from a year ago, the data showed.

 

In the Oceania region, alumina output fell 9% on month to 1.35 million tonnes in February. In Africa and Asia, excluding China, alumina production fell over 11% on month to 1.20 million tonnes. In Europe, including Russia, production fell 60,000 tonnes on month to 523,000 tonnes in February and the output in South America fell 39,000 tonnes from Janaury to 972,000 tonnes, the data showed.  

 

According to the International Aluminium Institute, global production of primary aluminium was down 10% on month at 5.69 million tonnes in February. At 1215 IST, the most active April aluminium contract on the Multi Commodity Exchange of India was up 0.5% at INR 337.90 per kg. On the London Metal Exchange, the three-month aluminium contract was up 0.2% at $3,277.50 per tonne.  End
