IMD sees heavy rains, hailstorms, thundersqualls in parts of east India Fri

MUMBAI – A trough runs from Gangetic West Bengal to south Chhattisgarh, which is likely to cause light to moderate rainfall over parts of West Bengal and Sikkim till Sunday, over Bihar on Saturday, and over Jharkhand and Odisha on Friday and Saturday, the India Meteorological Department said. Some spells of heavy showers are also likely over parts of sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on Thursday and Friday, the weather department said. Thundersqualls with wind speeds reaching 50–60 km per hour and gusting to 70 km per hour, along with hailstorms, are expected over parts of sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, and Bihar on Friday.
Under the influence of an upper air cyclonic circulation over northeast Assam, light to moderate showers accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are likely over most parts of northeast India till Sunday, the weather bureau said. A few spells of heavy rainfall are expected over parts of Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh from Friday to Sunday and over Nagaland on Saturday, the bureau said.
A fresh western disturbance acting as a cyclonic circulation lies over north Pakistan and adjoining Afghanistan, the weather bureau said. Another western disturbance is expected to affect northwest India from the second half of Saturday, the bureau said. Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are expected over parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, and Himachal Pradesh on Thursday and over Uttarakhand on Friday, according to the bureau. Light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are likely over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi till Friday, over west Rajasthan on Thursday, and over Uttar Pradesh on Friday.
Another spell of similar weather is expected over the same regions from Saturday to Monday, the weather department said. Thunderqualls with wind speeds reaching 50–60 km per hour and gusting to 70 km per hour are likely over parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi on Sunday and Monday, the department said.
Currently, a trough runs from Marathwada to south coastal Karnataka, while a cyclonic circulation lies over Karnataka. These weather systems are likely to cause light rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over parts of coastal Maharashtra, central Maharashtra, and Marathwada till Thursday, the weather department said. Similar weather is expected over parts of Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Karnataka in the next five days and over Kerala from Friday to Sunday, the department said.
Hot and humid weather conditions are expected over parts of coastal Maharashtra and Kerala till Friday, the weather department said. An alert for hot and humid weather is issued when maximum temperatures remain 3 degrees Celsius above normal, along with above-normal relative humidity.
Maximum temperatures in northwest India are likely to gradually rise by 2–3 degrees Celsius in the next two days, after which no change is expected in the subsequent two days. Following this, a gradual fall by 2–4 degrees Celsius is expected in the region in the subsequent three days, the weather bureau said.
In central India, maximum temperatures are expected to gradually rise by 2–3 degrees Celsius in the next two days, the weather department said. In east India, maximum temperatures are seen gradually rising by 2–3 degrees Celsius in the next two days, and thereafter a fall in the same range is likely in the subsequent two days, the department said.
No significant change in maximum temperature is likely in Gujarat in the next two days, after which it is likely to fall gradually by 2–3 degrees Celsius in the subsequent five days, the weather bureau said. End
