NEW DELHI – Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. Wednesday said its in-plant railway siding at Manesar, Haryana, crossed 100,000 car despatches. The unit commenced operations in June last year and has helped the company avoid 16,800 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide-equivalent emissions, it said in a press release.
"I am happy to share that within a short span of nine months, we have dispatched 100,000 units, through this siding. This initiative reinforces our commitment to reduce carbon footprint in vehicle dispatches while easing overall road congestion," Maruti Suzuki's Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Hisashi Takeuchi said in a statement.
Share of rail mode in its outbound logistics has increased to 26% in 2025 from 5% in 2016. "Going forward, we aim to scale up rail-based vehicle dispatches from the current 26% to 35% by FY 2030-31," Takeuchi said. Maruti Suzuki has despatched over 2.9 million vehicles via railway since 2014-15 (Apr-Mar), having received the Automobile Freight Train Operator licence back in 2013.
The Manesar railway siding was developed as part of the 126-kilometre Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor running between Sonipat and Palwal in Haryana. It was executed by Haryana Orbital Rail Corp. Ltd., a joint venture built through a public-private partnership. Haryana State Industrial & Infrastructure Development Corp., Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority, Maruti Suzuki, International Cargo Terminals & Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd. and All Cargo Logistics Ltd. are part of this special purpose vehicle. Maruti Suzuki has committed to investing INR 32.50 billion in developing the Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor.
The company had reported a net profit of INR 37.94 billion for the December quarter on revenue of INR 498.92 billion. At 1525 IST, its shares traded 2.2% higher at INR 12,739 on the National Stock Exchange. End
