India Feb crude steel output up 8% on year, says World Steel Association

MUMBAI – Production of crude steel in India rose around 8% on year to 13.6 million tonnes in February, according to data from the World Steel Association. India accounted for nearly 10% of global steel output in the month. Global crude steel output in February fell over 2% on year to 141.8 million tonnes.
Among the top 10 steel producers, India, the US, South Korea, Turkey, and Germany reported year-on-year increase in output while China, Russia, Brazil, and Iran reported a fall. China, the world's largest steel producer, reported an output of 76.1 million tonnes in February, down around 4% on year. Still, it accounted for nearly 54% of global production.
In Japan, crude steel output was 6.4 million tonnes last month, unchanged on year. Production in Russia is estimated to have fallen over 10% to 5.0 million tonnes. The US produced 6.5 million tonnes of steel in February, up around 6% on year. Steel output in Turkey was up over 3% on year at 3.0 million tonnes. Crude steel production in Germany rose around 5% to 2.8 million tonnes in February. Crude steel production in Brazil fell nearly 6% on year to 2.5 million tonnes. Production in Iran is estimated to have fallen over 1% on year to 1.7 million tonnes. End
