MUMBAI – The recent wet spell over north India has relieved the region of the earlier-than-usual rise in temperatures it recorded in the first half of March, private weather forecasting agency Skymet said. The persistent flow of western disturbances over the northern mountains and cyclonic circulations over the plains will keep the region cooler than normal, delaying the pre-monsoon heat till mid-April, the weather agency said.
Most parts of north India remained dry earlier in March, causing the winter chill to recede earlier than normal. Most parts of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Delhi witnessed an above-normal rise in temperatures, hinting at a harsh summer ahead in the season. However, the formation of multiple weather systems over north India caused light to moderate rainfall and snowfall over many parts of the region, lowering day temperatures to around 25–30 degrees Celsius.
With a series of western disturbances moving across the northern mountains and plains, no rise in temperatures is expected over the region in the near term. A western disturbance is likely to form in the latter half of Wednesday, which will be closely followed by the formation of another such system on Saturday. Under the influence of these weather systems, a wet spell is likely over most parts of north India, which is expected to be strong enough to keep temperatures from soaring. "Typical pre-monsoon conditions, with feelers of hot and dry summer, will roll over to the second half of April," the weather agency said. End
