NEW DELHI – The government has restored rates and value caps under the Remission of Duties and Taxes on Exported Products scheme for all eligible products, effective Monday, removing the 50% cap imposed on Feb. 22, the commerce ministry said in a release. The announcement will provide support to Indian exporters facing higher freight costs and war-related trade risks arising from disruptions in the West Asia maritime corridor, the ministry said.
"Recent developments in West Asia have led to challenges in maritime logistics, including changes in routing and transit patterns. These have had an impact on logistics costs and shipping schedules for export consignments moving to or through the region," the ministry said.
Under the scheme, the government reimburses the duties and taxes paid by exporters on imported inputs. The government had introduced the scheme in 2021 to replace the Merchandise Exports from India Scheme. The scheme was started with an initial deadline of Sept. 30, 2021, but it has been extended several times since then. End
