IMD sees hot, humid conditions in parts of Kerala till Thu, Konkan till Tue

MUMBAI – Hot and humid weather conditions are expected in pockets of Kerala till Thursday, and in parts of Konkan till Tuesday, the India Meteorological Department said. An alert for hot and humid weather is issued when maximum temperatures remain 3 degrees Celsius above normal, along with above-normal relative humidity.
Under the influence of a trough running from the Gulf of Mannar to west Vidarbha, light rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is likely over parts of Marathwada and central Maharashtra till Wednesday, the weather department said.
Currently, a western disturbance acting as a cyclonic circulation lies over Jammu, the weather bureau said. Two more western disturbances are likely to form and affect northwest India in quick succession -- one from Thursday and the other from Saturday, the bureau said. An upper cyclonic circulation lies over central Pakistan, while another lies over northeast Rajasthan, it said.
Light snowfall or rainfall over parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad is likely on Thursday and Saturday, over Himachal Pradesh on Thursday, and over Uttarakhand on Friday, it said. Thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over parts of Punjab, Chandigarh, and Delhi are expected on Thursday, and over Rajasthan on Saturday, the weather department said. Another fresh wet spell with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds is expected over parts of the western Himalayan region on Sunday, the department said.
The eastward movement of these western disturbances is expected to cause heavy rainfall accompanied by hailstorms over parts of sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on Tuesday, the weather bureau said. Thundersqualls with wind speeds reaching 50–60 km per hour and gusting to 70 per hour are likely over the same regions on Tuesday and Friday, and over Gangetic West Bengal on Friday, the bureau said. A wet spell accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds is expected over parts of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim till Friday, over Bihar on Thursday and Friday, over Gangetic West Bengal from Friday to Sunday, and over Jharkhand and Odisha on Friday and Saturday, it said.
Light rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning is expected over many parts of central India on Thursday and Friday, the weather department said.
An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over northeast Assam, which is likely to cause light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over several parts of the region till Saturday, the weather department said. A few spells of heavy rainfall are expected over parts of Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh on Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday, and over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura on Saturday, the department said.
Maximum temperatures over northwest India are likely to gradually rise by 3–5 degrees Celsius in the next four days, the weather bureau said. In central India, maximum temperatures are expected to gradually rise by 2–4 degrees Celsius in the next four days, while those in east India are expected to rise by 4–6 degrees Celsius in the next five days. Maximum temperatures in west India are expected to gradually rise by 2–3 degrees Celsius in the next three days, and those in the southern peninsula are likely to rise in the same range in the next four days, the bureau said.
