Global body says production of primary aluminium dn 10% on month in February

MUMBAI – Global production of primary aluminium was down 10% on month at 5.69 million tonnes in February, according to data from the International Aluminium Institute. On a year-on-year basis, production was up nearly 1%.
The average daily global aluminium production in February fell to 203,000 tonnes from 203,800 tonnes in January. China's aluminium production fell nearly 10% to 3.42 million tonnes in February from 3.79 million tonnes the previous month, and was up nearly 2% on year, the data showed.
In Asia, excluding China, production fell to 378,000 tonnes in February from 417,000 tonnes recorded in the previous month. In Africa, aluminium output in February was 120,000 tonnes, down from 134,000 tonnes the previous month.
In countries under the Gulf Cooperation Council, production fell by 76,000 tonnes to 448,000 tonnes in February. Production of primary aluminium in Europe, including Russia, fell to 559,000 tonnes in February from 614,000 tonnes the previous month. Output of the metal in North America fell by 34,000 tonnes to 302,000 tonnes in February and production in South America fell 10,000 tonnes to 118,000 tonnes.
Global alumina production fell over 3% on month to 13.09 million tonnes in January, according to data from the International Aluminium Institute. At 0956 IST, the three-month aluminium futures contract on the London Metal Exchange was at $3,193.50 per tonne, down 0.7% from the previous close. End
