NEW DELHI – State-run NHPC Ltd. plans to expand its capacity to 12,000 megawatts for the financial year 2026-27 (Apr-Mar), from 9,000 megawatts in FY26, a senior company official said. "We have a (capacity addition) target of at least 3,000 megawatts this coming financial year. That would make the total capacity expansion to around 12,000 megawatts," the official said. 

 

At its post-December earnings call, the company had said that it planned to add 2,774 megawatts of new capacity in FY27. NHPC also plans to bring six new projects under construction during this calendar year, the official said. For FY27, the company has earmarked a capital expenditure of INR 130 billion towards these projects, the official added. The company's capital expenditure for Apr-Dec was INR 88.44 billion against the planned spend of INR 133 billion. 

 

As of Dec. 31, NHPC had an installed capacity of 8,833 megawatts across 31 operational projects, including 8,271 megawatts from hydro and 562 megawatts from solar and wind assets. The company currently has 9,204 megawatts under construction across 14 projects, comprising 8,014 megawatts of hydro and 1,190 megawatts of solar capacity.

 

In addition, projects totalling 10,763 megawatts are awaiting clearances and approvals, while a larger pipeline of 21,320 megawatts is under survey and investigation, including a significant share of pumped storage projects. 

 

For the December quarter, the company's net profit was INR 2.93 billion on revenue of INR 18.77 billion. Friday, shares of the company closed at INR 76.80 on the National Stock Exchange, up 0.7%. End
