NEW DELHI – Analysts are positive on stocks of telecommunication companies for the coming week because of news towards the end of the week that is positive for Vodafone Idea Ltd. and Bharti Airtel Ltd.

"In this kind of environment, when geopolitical risks are rising, FIIs (foreign institutional investors) have been continuously selling, dollar index is rising, crude prices are rising, there are concerns about inflation, some sectors may remain slightly insulated and telecom is one of them," said Sugandha Sachdeva, founder of equity, commodity, and currency research firm SS WealthStreet.

The BSE Telecommunication index is likely to find support at 2800-2750 points next week while the zone between 3000 and 3080 points may pose resistance, said Ganesh Angaj, head technical analyst at NVS Brokerage Pvt. Ltd. Friday, the sectoral index ended 1% higher at 2855.09 points.

Shares of Vodafone Idea ended the week about 1% higher. Friday, the stock closed 4.5% up at INR 9.34 on the National Stock Exchange after the latest telecom subscriber data showed a sharp moderation in the fall of the company's user base. Bharti Airtel reported a healthy uptick in its subscriber base for January, adding 4.41 million net mobile users, taking its total active mobile subscribers to 466.09 million. Vodafone Idea's subscriber base was at 169.17 million.

Further, the Centre is not looking to dilute its 49% equity stake in Vodafone Idea and is discussing the next leg of the telecom production-linked incentive scheme, Mint reported Friday, based on an interview with Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia.
