MUMBAI – Hot and humid conditions are expected in parts of Kerala till Sunday and over Konkan, Goa, and coastal Karnataka on Sunday and Monday, the India Meteorological Department said. A warning for hot and humid weather is issued when maximum temperatures remain 3 degrees Celsius above normal, along with above-normal relative humidity.

An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over south interior Karnataka while a trough runs from the Gulf of Mannar near Sri Lanka to north interior Karnataka, the weather department said. These weather systems are expected to cause light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over most parts of south peninsular India till Tuesday, it said.

Under the influence of multiple upper air cyclonic circulations over east and central India, a wet spell accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are expected over parts of the region in the next 2-3 days, the weather bureau said. Heavy rainfall is likely over parts of sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim till Saturday, with a few spells of very heavy rainfall likely over the region Saturday.

These weather systems are also expected to cause thundersqualls over parts of Gangetic West Bengal till Saturday and over sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim Saturday. Hailstorms are also likely over parts of Odisha and West Bengal till Saturday, the weather bureau said.

A western disturbance acting as a trough runs from north Pakistan to southwest Madhya Pradesh, across Punjab and Rajasthan, while an induced upper air cyclonic circulation lies over Haryana. These weather systems are likely to cause a wet spell accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh till Saturday. A fresh feeble western disturbance is expected to affect northwest India from Sunday while another western disturbance is likely to affect the region from Thursday, the weather bureau said.

Currently, an upper air cyclonic circulation lies over northeast Assam and adjoining Arunachal Pradesh and a trough runs from northwest Madhya Pradesh to Nagaland, the weather department said. Under its influence, heavy rainfall is expected over parts of Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh Tuesday, the department said. Light to moderate showers with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are likely over most parts of northeast India in the next five days.

The presence of a trough from Madhya Pradesh to Vidarbha is expected to cause light to moderate showers accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over parts of central Maharashtra Monday and Tuesday, and over Marathwada Saturday, Monday, and Tuesday, the weather bureau said.  End
