NEW DELHI – Power Grid Corp. of India Ltd. Chairman and Managing Director R.K. Tyagi Thursday urged transmission equipment manufacturers to augment production capacity amid the opportunity before India. Tyagi, whose tenure will end this month, was speaking as part of a panel at the Bharat Electricity Summit 2026.
"Suppliers and transmission manufacturers, my advice will be whatever capacities you can augment, it is time for us to rise on the occasion," Tyagi said.
On challenges for the transmission network in India, Tyagi named right of way issues and supply of transmission equipment as major hurdles.
Tyagi said pricing of electricity should be reasonable. "In the last five years the prices of transmission systems has increased by almost three times...Ultimately, we have to supply electricity to the consumers and electricity should be affordable for everyone. So, whatever we charge, it will be passed on to the consumers," said Tyagi.
The outgoing executive of the state-run entity also expressed the need for more 800 kilovolt high-voltage direct current corridors in the country. End
