MUMBAI – Under the influence of multiple weather systems, light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds is likely over sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim till Monday, with a spell of heavy rainfall over most parts of the region till Saturday, and spells of very heavy rainfall on Friday, the India Meteorological Department said. Thundersqualls with wind speeds reaching 50–60 kilometre per hour and gusting to 70 km per hour are expected over parts of the same region on Friday and Saturday, the weather department said.

These weather systems are also expected to cause a wet spell accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds in several parts of central India during the next three days and parts of east India over the next five days, the weather department said. Thundersqualls with wind speeds reaching 60–70 km per hour and gusting to 80 km per hour are likely over parts of Jharkhand on Friday and over Gangetic West Bengal on Friday and Saturday. Hailstorms are also likely over parts of Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand till Friday, over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Gangetic West Bengal, and Odisha till Saturday, and over Bihar on Friday.

Currently, two upper air cyclonic circulations, along with a trough and a western disturbance acting as a cyclonic circulation are lying over northwest India. These weather systems are expected to cause a wet spell with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over parts of the Western Himalayan region till Friday, after which the intensity of weather activity is expected to reduce over the region, the weather bureau said. Similar weather is likely over parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, west Uttar Pradesh, and east Rajasthan till Friday and over east Uttar Pradesh on Friday and Saturday, the bureau said.

Thundersqualls with wind speeds reaching 50–60 km per hour and gusting to 70 km per hour are expected over parts of Uttarakhand till Friday, the weather bureau said. Hailstorms are likely over parts of Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and west Uttar Pradesh till Friday and over east Uttar Pradesh on Friday, the bureau said. A fresh feeble western disturbance is expected to influence northwest India from Sunday, the bureau said.

An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over northeast Assam and adjoining Arunachal Pradesh, which is likely to cause a wet spell with thunderstorms and lightning over multiple parts of northeast India in the next five days, the weather department said.

A trough runs from the Gulf of Mannar to south interior Karnataka across Tamil Nadu, while an upper air cyclonic circulation lies over interior Tamil Nadu and adjoining Kerala, the weather bureau said. Another upper air cyclonic circulation lies over coastal Andhra Pradesh. These weather systems are expected to cause light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over most parts of south India till Monday, the bureau said.

Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are expected over parts of central Maharashtra and Marathwada on Friday and Saturday under the influence of a trough, which runs from north Madhya Pradesh to Marathwada across Vidarbha, the weather bureau said.

With large-scale thunderstorm activity predicted over most parts of the country and the consecutive approach of western disturbances, normal to below-normal day temperatures are likely over the next seven days across the country, the weather bureau said. No significant heat wave conditions are likely during this period, the bureau said.  End
