NEW DELHI – The US knew nothing about the strikes on Iran's South Pars gasfield, nor was Qatar involved in any shape or form with it, US President Donald Trump said Thursday, adding that it was Israel's doing. "Israel, out of anger for what has taken place in the Middle East, has violently lashed out at a major facility known as South Pars Gas Field in Iran," he said in a post on Truth Social. "A relatively small section of the whole (field) has been hit."
The conflict in West Asia escalated sharply after a strike hit Iran's South Pars gasfield Wednesday – the first reported strike on Iranian energy infrastructure in the Gulf during the West Asia conflict. Iran accused Israel of striking its facilities in the huge South Pars gas field and retaliated by vowing attacks on oil and gas targets throughout the Gulf, firing missiles at Qatar and Saudi Arabia. Qatar said Iranian missile attacks on the Ras Laffan Industrial City, the country's main gas facility, have caused "significant damage".
Trump said Iran did not know about the lack of involvement by Qatar or any of the pertinent facts pertaining to the attack on the South Pars gas field and called Tehran's attack on Qatar's liquefied natural gas facility "unjustifiable" and "unfair". He further added that there will be no more attacks by Israel related to the South Pars gas field, unless Iran decides to attack Qatar. He further warned Iran that the US will blow up the entirety of the South Pars gas field, with or without the help or consent of Israel, "at an amount of strength and power Iran has never seen or witnessed before" if it decides to attack Qatar.
"I do not want to authorize this level of violence and destruction because of the long term implications that it will have on the future of Iran, but if Qatar's LNG is again attacked, I will not hesitate to do so," he added. End
