India gets 66% above-normal rainfall in week to Wed at 11.6 mm, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received an average rainfall of 11.6 millimetres in the week ended Wednesday, 66% above the normal of 7.0 millimetres for the period, according to the India Meteorological Department. During Mar. 1-18, the country received 12.4 millimetres of rainfall, 27% below the normal of 17.0 millimetres.

 

Of the four homogeneous regions, two received below-normal and two above-normal rainfall during the week. East and northeast India received 45.2 millimetres during the week, 267% above the normal of 12.3 millimetres, according to the data. The South Peninsula received 4.7 millimetres, 37% above the normal of 3.4 millimetres. On the other hand, northwest India received 9.8 millimetres of rainfall, 19% below normal, and central India received 1.4 millimetres, 30% below normal, according to the data.

 

Of the 36 subdivisions, five received normal rainfall, eight recorded large deficient rainfall, and nine recorded deficient rainfall. Rainfall was in large excess in 10 subdivisions, while four subdivisions did not get any rainfall during the week.  End
