--Lok Sabha passes Appropriation Bill for FY27
NEW DELHI – The Lok Sabha Wednesday passed the Appropriation (No. 2) Bill, 2026, authorising the appropriation of certain sums from the Consolidated Fund of India for 2026-27 (Apr-Mar). The Lower House passed the bill after discussing the ministries' Demand for Grants for the next financial year, starting Apr. 1.
Demands for Grants are formal requests for funds by each ministry or department. After approval, they become part of the Appropriation Bill, allowing the government to withdraw funds from the Consolidated Fund of India. The government has projected a total expenditure of INR 53.5 trillion for FY27, up 7.7% on year.
The exercise is part of the annual budgetary process. It will conclude after the Lok Sabha passes the Finance Bill, which includes tax changes and legislative amendments proposed in the Budget. End
