MUMBAI – Zydus Lifesciences Ltd. Wednesday said it has signed a licensing and supply agreement with Torrent Pharmaceuticals Ltd. to co-market its Semaglutide injection in India. Under the agreement, Zydus will make and supply the product, while Torrent Pharma has received semi-exclusive rights to co-market Semaglutide in India under its own brand name, the former said in a press release.
Per the agreement, Torrent Pharma will pay an upfront licensing fee to Zydus and will market the product under its brand Sembolic. Zydus will also market the product under its brands Semaglyn, Mashema, and Alterme, the company said.
The Semaglutide injection developed by Zydus comes in a prefilled cartridge and a reusable pen device, which is designed to enhance patient convenience, the company said. Semaglutide is used to treat adults with insufficiently controlled type 2 diabetes mellitus.
For the December quarter, Zydus Lifesciences reported a consolidated net profit of INR 10.42 billion on consolidated revenues of INR 68.65 billion. On Wednesday, shares of the company closed at INR 899.60 on the National Stock Exchange, up 1.1% from previous close.
Torrent Pharmaceuticals reported a consolidated net profit of INR 6.35 billion on consolidated revenues of INR 33.03 billion for the quarter ended December. Shares of the company ended marginally lower at INR 4,289.30 on the National Stock Exchange Wednesday. End
