KOLKATA – The country's third largest cement manufacturer Shree Cement Tuesday said it has been declared as the preferred bidder for the Dommarnandyala - 1 limestone block at YSR Kadapa District in Andhra Pradesh.

The limestone block is spread across 373 hectares, the company said in a regulatory filing with bourses. Limestone is the key raw material to manufacture the Portland Limestone Cement, or PLC, variant of cement. PLC cement is the most common and widely used across the country for commercial and private construction activities. A dedicated limestone block ensures the manufacturer steady and controlled supply of raw materials and is crucial for a cement company to set up a future grinding unit.

Shree Cement, which is aiming to reach a production capacity of 80 million tonnes by 2028-29 (Apr-Mar) from the current capacity of around 69 million tonnes, is organically expanding its operations across the country, including south India which previously was not a focus region for the company. Last month, it increased its production capacity at its Kalaburagi plant in Karnataka by 3.65 million tonnes to 7.15 million tonnes.

For the quarter ended December, the company had reported net profit of INR 2.79 billion on revenue of INR 44.16 billion. Tuesday, the company's shares closed 1.5% higher at INR 23,675 on the National Stock Exchange. End
