Govt restricts import of silver jewellery with studded diamonds till June

NEW DELHI – The government on Monday imposed import curbs on silver jewellery studded with precious and semi-precious diamonds and stones till Jun. 30, according to a notification. "The import policy of items...is revised from free to restricted for the period up to June 30, 2026, with immediate effect," the Directorate General of Foreign Trade said in a gazette notification.

 

In Apr-Dec of 2025-26 (Apr-Mar), total imports of silver jewellery with studded precious diamonds totalled $8.26 million, six times the year-ago figure. During the nine months, the import of silver jewellery studded with semi-precious stones was to the tune of $94.69 million, up 70% on year.  End
