MUMBAI – The India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall over Assam till Monday. It also expects heavy rainfall over parts of Nagaland on Saturday and Meghalaya on Sunday. An upper air cyclonic circulation over northeast Assam and its neighbourhood in lower tropospheric levels will bring showers in parts of northeast India, according to the department.

The weather agency said heavy rainfall and snowfall are very likely over Arunachal Pradesh till Monday. Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura are likely to receive moderate rainfall with thunderstorm and lightning over the weekend, it said.

Heavy rainfall is very likely over sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim till Monday, the weather bureau said. It has issued an orange alert for heavy rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm and lightning in Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar districts in sub-Himalayan West Bengal on Saturday. It has also issued an orange alert for Barpeta, Bongaigaon and Nalbari districts of Assam for the same day.

Some parts of the western Himalayan region are likely to experience light rainfall and snowfall on Saturday, the department said. The rainfall in the region is likely to increase to fairly widespread from Sunday to Thursday, it said. Some parts of Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh may experience hailstorm on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the weather department has forecast heatwave conditions in parts of Vidarbha, Jharkhand and Odisha on Saturday. Hot and humid conditions are very likely in some pockets of Konkan, Goa, Kerala and Mahe on Saturday, it said.

The department sees no significant change in maximum temperatures over northwest India during the next 24 hours, but says they are likely to gradual fall by 2-4 degrees Celsius in the subsequent six days. No significant change in maximum temperatures is likely in Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh and east India during the next two days and a gradual fall by 2-4 degrees Celsius is seen in the subsequent five days, it said.
