NEW DELHI – Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Oil India Ltd.'s augmented Numaligarh–Siliguri product pipeline at a public event in Guwahati, Assam, Friday. The 654 km cross-country multi-product pipeline has been upgraded to handle 5.5 million tonnes per annum, from its earlier capacity of 1.72 million tonnes per annum.
The expansion of the pipeline will support the increase in capacity of Numaligarh Refinery Ltd. to 9 million tonnes per annum from 3 million tonnes per annum under the government's Hydrocarbon Vision 2030 for the Northeast. The augmentation was carried out through upgrades to existing infrastructure. Implemented as a brownfield project, the expansion was completed at a cost of around INR 7.50 billion against an approved cost of INR 8.60 billion.
Numaligarh Refinery is a joint venture between Oil India, the Assam government, and Engineers India Ltd. The company is primarily engaged in the business of refining petroleum products.
For the December quarter, Oil India had, on a consolidated basis, reported a net profit of INR 8.08 billion on a revenue of INR 49.16 billion. Friday, its shares closed 1.8% lower at INR 470.55 on the National Stock Exchange. End
