MUMBAI – Coal production in India from captive, commercial, and other mines crossed a record 200 million tonnes in the financial year 2025-26 (Apr-Mar) as of Wednesday, the Ministry of Coal said in a release Friday. This is around 11% higher on year. Of the total production, captive and commercial coal mines accounted for 194.17 million tonnes, while other mines contributed 6.06 million tonnes.
Coal production in FY26 surpassed the total production of FY25 – 197.32 million tonnes – on Saturday, achieving this 24 days ahead of last year, the release said. Coal dispatches have risen around 8% on year to 197.09 million tonnes from 182.98 million tonnes. "This sustained rise in dispatch reflects the sector's growing capacity to meet the country's energy requirements while ensuring reliable coal supply to key consuming sectors," the ministry said. End
