PM Modi urges for dialogue, transit of energy in call with Iran president

NEW DELHI – Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed concerns over the hightened tension in West Asia and urged for dialogue and diplomacy between the US-Israel and Iran. After speaking with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Modi, in a post on social media platform X late Thursday, said the safety of Indian nationals and need for unhindered transit of goods and energy remain India's top priorities.
"Expressed deep concern over the escalation of tensions and the loss of civilian lives as well as damage to civilian infrastructure," Modi said. He also reiterated India's "commitment to peace and stability and urged for dialogue and diplomacy."
On Feb. 28, the US and Israel jointly launched military attack on Tehran, killing thousands, including Iran's then supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in airstrikes. In response, Iran attacked US bases and other countries in West Asia. End
