NEW DELHI – Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla Thursday did not allow the Leader of the Opposition in the Lower House Rahul Gandhi to raise the issue of cooking gas crisis in the country, following which the House was adjourned till 1400 IST.

India is facing an acute shortage of liquified petroleum gas in the midst of the war between Iran and the US-Israel combine in West Asia. Media reports show long queues of consumers outside gas distribution agencies.

Rahul Gandhi gave a notice to raise the gas shortage issue in the Lok Sabha Thursday, which was rejected by the Speaker. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju argued that this issue should be raised in the presence of the petroleum minister. The Congress members objected to this argument and the Speaker adjourned the House.

Birla Thursday returned to the Chair after a resolution to remove him, moved by the Opposition during the first leg of the Budget Session, was rejected by the House by a voice vote on Wednesday.  End
