NEW DELHI – Ashok Leyland Ltd. Monday said it sold 22,157 commercial vehicles in February, up 24% on year. This is the highest number of commercial vehicles despatched in a month by the Chennai-based automaker in the past 11 months. However, the year-on-year growth rate is the slowest in the past four months.

 

Ashok Leyland sold 14,755 medium-heavy duty commercial vehicles in February, up 28% on year. Of this, truck sales rose 33% on year to 11,907 units while bus sales grew 11% on year to 2,848 units. These sales figures include vehicles sold in India and overseas by the company. Ashok Leyland despatched 7,402 light commercial vehicles last month, up 15% on year.

 

Domestic commercial vehicle wholesale sales by the company grew 28% on year to 20,314 units in February. Of this, medium-heavy commercial vehicle sales grew 31% on year to 13,264 units while light commercial vehicles' despatches increased 22% on year to 7,050 units. 

 

In Apr-Feb, the company sold 195,056 units, up 14% on year. Of this, domestic sales grew 14% on year to 178,612 units.

 

Ashok Leyland had reported a net profit of INR 7.96 billion for the quarter ended December on a revenue of INR 115.34 billion. At 1001 IST, shares of the company traded at INR 212.52 on the National Stock Exchange, down 0.67%.  End
