NEW DELHI – Shares of automobile companies that are part of the Nifty Auto index are expected to be range-bound next week after the sectoral index snapped a two-week winning run Friday, analysts said. "This week may see a mild bounce from support, but momentum remains cautious unless price sustains above the resistance band," Rishabh Srivastava, technical analyst at Lakshmishree Investment and Securities Pvt. Ltd., said.
Friday, the Nifty Auto closed 0.4% higher at 27846.80 points. For the week, it fell 1.4%, contrasting the 0.4% gain recorded by the benchmark Nifty 50 index. Analysts noted that through the week, volatility remained high with the India VIX spiking on geopolitical concern. Analysts expect the trend to continue next week.
"CNX Auto is holding near the 27300 mark, a key support zone that has attracted buyers in recent sessions. Resistance stands around 28200, where selling pressure has capped gains," Srivastava said.
Of the 15 stocks that constitute the sectoral index, only five closed in positive territory. Tube Investments of India, Bharat Forge, and Ashok Leyland were the top gainers while Uno Minda, Mahindra & Mahindra, and Hero MotoCorp were the biggest laggards.
In January, domestic despatches of two-wheelers grew 25% on year to 1.8 million units while those of passenger vehicles grew 12% to 450,000 units. "GST rate cuts, wedding season demand and new launches support growth outlook across segments, including retail and wholesale sales," ICRA said in a note Friday. The rating agency expects two-wheeler domestic volumes to grow 6–9% in the financial year 2025-26 (Apr-Mar) due to improved replacement demand after the cuts in goods and services tax, gradual recovery in urban consumption, and healthy rural incomes.
