--L&T partners with Nvidia to build gigawatt-scale AI factory infrastructure
MUMBAI – Larsen & Toubro Ltd. Wednesday announced a partnership with US-based chipmaker Nvidia to build gigawatt-scale artificial intelligence factory infrastructure. At the India AI Summit being held in New Delhi, L&T also announced a proposed venture under the India AI Mission to build sovereign, scalable gigawatt-scale Nvidia AI factory infrastructure, according to an exchange filing.
The venture plans to develop a gigawatt-scale AI data centre factory, providing AI-ready capacity for high-density, next-generation workloads. It will support the creation of sovereign AI infrastructure that allows critical data, models, and AI workloads to be built, trained, and deployed in India, while remaining interoperable with global ecosystems, L&T said. "This sovereign by-design fabric is intended to serve domestic requirements, global hyperscalers, cloud providers, and enterprises looking to deploy large-scale AI capacity from India as a strategic hub," the company said.
The venture will scale Nvidia GPU cluster deployment at its data centre in Chennai to up to 30 megawatts capacity in its 300-acre gigawatt scalable campus, and at the new 40 MW data centre in Mumbai currently under execution, L&T said. This AI factory model can deliver advanced AI services to global offtakers, hyperscalers and India Inc across sectors including manufacturing, infrastructure, energy, financial services, healthcare, and public services, thereby moving from experimentation to production-scale deployment.
This will also enable L&T and its group companies to deploy live AI agents on sovereign cloud, fostering a self-sustaining innovation hub along with L&T's own AI agents developed for internal consumption. The partnership integrates L&T's engineering, infrastructure development, and execution with Nvidia's AI infrastructure, including Nvidia GPUs, CPUs, networking, Nvidia-accelerated storage platforms from leading providers, Nvidia AI Enterprise software stack, and reference architectures to enable rapid, secure AI adoption. It will deploy AI-ready data centre infrastructure, advanced computing platforms, and ecosystem enablement required to support large-scale AI workloads across priority sectors, L&T said.
"India's enterprises are ready to move from AI pilots to production-scale deployment," S.N. Subrahmanyan, chairman and managing director of L&T, said in a press release. "With NVIDIA's platforms and L&T's execution strength, we are building infrastructure that will enable AI to deliver measurable economic impact."
For the quarter ended December, L&T had reported a consolidated net profit of INR 32.15 billion on revenues of INR 714.50 billion. At 1358 IST, shares of L&T traded around 1% higher at INR 4,304.40 on the National Stock Exchange. End
