HYDERABAD – Alkem Laboratories Ltd. on Friday reported a consolidated net profit of INR 6.36 billion for the December quarter, up 1.6% on year but down nearly 17% on quarter. The net profit growth was the slowest in 11 quarters.
The company's revenue for the quarter rose nearly 11% year on year but fell nearly 7% on quarter to INR 37.37 billion. Both the net profit and revenue were in line with analysts' estimates. Analysts had estimated Alkem Lab's net profit at INR 6.06 billion and revenue was projected at INR 37.32 billion.
"In Q3 (Oct-Dec), we delivered a stable performance in a dynamic operating environment, supported by strong fundamentals in our domestic business and consistent execution across our international businesses," Vikas Gupta, chief executive officer of the company, said in a press release.
The company reported a one-time cost of INR 527.90 million related to implementation of the new labour codes. If this cost is excluded, the company's net profit would have been INR 6.89 billion.
"We remain bullish on the growth opportunities in domestic as well as international business and are on track to deliver our full year guidance. Looking ahead, the planned launch of our GLP-1 semaglutide in March 2026 is expected to be among our key growth drivers. Our focus remains on execution, strengthening our product portfolio, and building long-term competitiveness across markets," Alkem Lab said.
Alkem Lab had guided for double-digit growth in the US and exceeding the Indian pharmaceutical market's growth in 2025-26 (Apr-Mar). The company's India revenue in the December quarter rose 5.5% on year to INR 24.96 billion and its international business rose 26.6% on year to INR 12.16 billion.
US sales for the December quarter grew 18.8% on year to INR 7.53 billion, accounting for 20.3% of the total sales. The non-US markets reported 41.6% on-year growth for the quarter to INR 4.62 billion.
Alkem Lab's gross margin improved to 65.9% from 64.3% a year ago. Its earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation margin grew 22.2% in the December quarter, against a growth of 22.5% a year ago. The EBITDA for the quarter improved to INR 8.28 billion from INR 7.59 billion a year ago. The company had guided an EBITDA margin of 19.5-20.0% for FY26.
The company's total expenses for the December quarter were up 11.3% on year at INR 30.5 billion. Input costs for the quarter up 1.5% on year at INR 9.4 billion. Other expenses up by 16.4% on year at INR 9.1 billion. The employee expenses rose 15.5% on year to INR 7.2 billion. The company's research and development spend was INR 1.39 billion, 3.7% of the total sales.
For Apr-Dec, the company reported a consolidated net profit of INR 20.65 billion on a revenue of INR 111.09 billion. The board of Alkem Lab Friday approved an interim dividend of INR 43 per share and set Feb. 20 as the record date.
On the National Stock Exchange, shares of the company closed nearly 8% lower at INR 5,402.50. End
