MUMBAI – Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corp. Ltd. reported double-digit growth in both net profit and revenue for the December quarter, on strong growth across catering, internet ticketing, and tourism segments. The growth in revenue was the highest in the last eight quarters, while the bottom line growth was at a three-quarter high.
The company's net profit for the December quarter was INR 3.94 billion, up nearly 16% on year and above analysts' estimate of INR 3.50 billion–INR 3.65 billion. Sequentially, the net profit rose over 15%.
Revenue for the quarter was INR 14.49 billion, up over 18% from INR 12.25 billion a year ago. Estimates for revenue ranged from INR 12.75 billion to INR 13.39 billion. Sequentially, the revenue rose over 26%.
The company's net profit includes one-time income of INR 109.01 million. Excluding the exceptional income, the December quarter net profit would be INR 3.84 billion.
The company announced an interim dividend of INR 3.50 per share, with Feb. 20 set as the record date.
IRCTC's catering revenue for the quarter was INR 6.61 billion, up over 19% from INR 5.55 billion a year ago. The internet ticketing revenue was INR 4.01 billion, up over 13% from INR 3.54 billion.
The public sector company's tourism business grew over 29% on year to INR 2.89 billion in the December quarter. The revenue from packaged drinking water, Rail Neer, rose nearly 7% on year to INR 1.03 billion.
The company's total expenses for the December quarter were INR 10.09 billion, up over 21% from a year ago. Expenses on catering services, which accounts for half of the total expenditure, increased to INR 5.12 billion, up nearly 25%. Tourism and employee benefit expenses rose nearly 28% and over 15%, respectively. However, the purchase of stock-in-trade declined marginally during the quarter.
The company's net profit for Apr-Dec rose nearly 12% on year to INR 10.67 billion. Top line for the period rose over 10% on year to INR 37.55 billion. The company announced its results post-market hours on Thursday. Shares of the company closed 1% lower at INR 622.05 on the National Stock Exchange. End
