MUMBAI – Indian telecommunications operators net added 7.24 million mobile users in December, over three and a half times the 2.01 million users net added in November, data from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India showed. Total mobile subscribers across India rose to 1.24 billion as of Dec. 31

 

In a first since January 2025, Bharti Airtel Ltd. added more subscribers than Reliance Industries Ltd.'s Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd. Bharti Airtel took the top spot as it net added 5.43 million mobile users in December, much higher than 1.22 million users added the previous month. Bharti Airtel had 463.38 million mobile users at the end of December. 

 

Reliance Jio net added 2.96 million users in December, higher than 1.39 million mobile users added in November. Jio's overall subscribers rose to 489.05 million users as of Dec. 31.

 

Vodafone Idea Ltd. and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. saw a fall in subscribers in December. Vodafone Idea lost 940,731 mobile subscribers on a net basis in December, bringing down its overall subscriber tally to 198.77 million. The company had net lost 1.01 million users in November.

 

State-owned BSNL net lost 206,797 subscribers in December, against a net addition of 421,514 users in November. BSNL's overall subscriber tally fell to 98.76 million users.  End
