MUMBAI – Torrent Power Ltd. will see a continued pickup in its capital expenditure due to capacity addition in the renewable energy segment, the company's management said during its post-earnings call with analysts Tuesday.

The company incurred INR-17.50-billion capital expenditure on renewable projects in the December quarter and INR 31 billion for Apr-Dec, a top official of the company said. Its total capital expenditure for the nine-month period was over INR 48.4 billion, the official said. He, however, refused to share the number of capex company had planned or would invest in FY26.

"So there is a pickup in Capex and given the transmission constraints and everything else put together of the 4.3 gigawatt of RE pipeline under construction...about the next year, we expect to commission about 1.2 to 1.5 gigawatt," the company's top official said.

The renewal of Torrent Power's franchise agreement for the distribution in Bhiwandi was being discussed with the government, the top official said. Torrent Power's franchise agreement for distribution in Bhiwandi will expire in January 2027. The agreement can be extended by five years after mutual discussion, the company's top official said, while noting that tendering process was not necessary. Torrent Power had entered into the country's first distribution franchisee agreement with Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Co. Ltd. for Bhiwandi Circle in December 2006.

The company's net profit for the reporting quarter was INR 6.43 billion, up over 35% on year. The company's revenue for the quarter was INR 67.78 billion, up over 4% on year. During the December quarter, the company received one-time regulatory benefit of INR 2.7 billion for its 382-5 megawatt UnoSUGEN gas-based power plant in South Gujarat. The company management did not reveal much about the case for which it received this windfall gain from the regulator.

Tuesday, the company's shares closed nearly 4% higher at INR 1,483 on the National Stock Exchange. The company announced the December quarter results after market hours. End
