Domestic air passenger traffic down 4.1% YoY at 14.31 mln in Dec

MUMBAI – Domestic airlines flew 14.31 million passengers in December, down 4.1% from the same period a year ago, data released by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation Wednesday showed. For 2025, domestic airlines carried 166.95 million passengers, up 3.5% on year.

 

The market share of InterGlobe Aviation Ltd.'d IndiGo airline in December contracted to 59.6% from 63.6% in November. It carried 8.52 million passengers in December, down from 9.7 million passengers in November. The airline's passenger load factor in December was 88.1%, down marginally from 88.7% in November. 

 

The Air India group saw a rise of 290 basis points in its market share to 29.6% in December from the previous month. The group's passenger load factor rose to 89.5% in December from 87.5% the previous month. It carried 4.23 million passengers in December, up from 4.08 million passengers in November.

 

Akasa Air's market share rose to 5.2% from 4.7% in November. Its passenger load factor increased 140 bps to 95.2% in December from the preceding month. It carried 743,000 passengers in December, up from 723,000 passengers in November.

 

The market share of SpiceJet rose to 4.3% in December from 3.7% in November. The airline's December month passenger load factor stood at 87.5%, marginally down from 87.7% reported in November. The airline carried 614,000 passengers in December, up from 567,000 passengers in November.

 

At 1020 IST, shares of InterGlobe Aviation were 0.2% lower at INR 4,936.90 on the National Stock Exchange. For the quarter ended December, the company's net profit was INR 6.13 billion on revenue of INR 234.72 billion.  End
