IEX Jan electricity traded volume rises 20% YoY to 13.05 bln units

MUMBAI – Indian Energy Exchange Ltd. Tuesday said its electricity traded volumes jumped nearly 20% on year to 13.05 billion units in January, marking the highest ever monthly traded volume. The company reported a monthly volume of 4.34 billion units in the real-time market, up 53% on year, according to an exchange filing by the company.

 

The average market-clearing price in the day-ahead market declined nearly 13% on year to INR 3.86 per unit in January. Similarly, the market-clearing price in the real-time market fell 16% on year to INR 3.72 per unit last month. India's energy consumption in December rose nearly 4% on year to 142.74 billion units, the energy exchange said, citing government data.

 

In the green market, comprising the green day-ahead and green term-ahead market segments, IEX clocked a volume of 832 million units in January, up 11% on year. The weighted average price in the green day-ahead market for January was INR 4.06 per unit, down 13% on year. 

 

A total of 2.39 million renewable energy certificates were traded in January, down 37% on year, IEX said. The next renewable energy certificate trading sessions at the exchange are scheduled on Feb. 11 and Feb. 25.  

 

For the quarter ended December, the company had reported a net profit of INR 1.15 billion on a revenue of INR 1.44 billion. Tuesday, the stock closed nearly 3% higher at INR 126.26 on the National Stock Exchange.  End
