Strong retail push sees Hero MotoCorp's Jan sales up 26% YoY at 557,871 units

MUMBAI – Hero MotoCorp. Ltd. Sunday reported a 26% year-on-year rise in total sales in January at 557,871 units, driven by healthy retail momentum across markets and traction for its new launches, the company said in a press release.
The company said it recorded 491,986 registrations on the government's VAHAN portal during the month. It also said the strong growth in January was driven by a robust performance in the scooter segment. The growth was supported by growing consumer demand for new offerings as Xoom and Destini, the company said. The motorcycle portfolio too saw strong traction, led by Xtreme and Glamour X.
The company's domestic sales also rose a tad over 26% on year to 520,208 units in January. In terms of exports, Hero MotoCorp reported a rise of 24% on year at 37,663 units in January. The company's motorcycle sales in January rose nearly 24% on year to 495,889 units. Scooter sales rose nearly 46% on year to 61,982 units.
For Apr-Jan, the company clocked sales of 5.31 million units, up 7.1% on year, with domestic sales at 5 million and exports at 315,845 units. Domestic sales were up 5.3% on year and exports rose 45.5% on year. Motorcycle sales in the first 10 months of the current financial year stood at 4.81 million, up only 4.2%, and sales of scooters were at 502,010 units, up 46% on year.
For the quarter ended September, the company had reported a net profit of INR 13.93 billion on revenue of INR 121.26 billion. On Sunday, the stock ended 0.6% lower at INR 5,502.50 on the National Stock Exchange. End
