HYDERABAD - Ashok Leyland Ltd. on Sunday said sales of its commercial vehicles grew 27% on year to 21,920 units in January. The company registered healthy sales volume across categories, including medium-heavy buses, trucks, and light commercial vehicles. Sales of medium-heavy commercial vehicles grew 25% on year to 14,220 units in January.

 

The Chennai-based automobile major sold 20,079 vehicles to local dealerships in January, up 31% on year. The company sold 11,359 medium-heavy duty trucks in India for the month, up 45% on year. It sold 1,474 medium-heavy duty buses during the month, down 27% on year. Sales of light commercial vehicles in India grew 33% on year to 7,246 units in January.

 

Including exports, sales of medium-heavy duty trucks grew 43% on year to 11,800 units, but medium-heavy duty bus sales fell 22% on year to 2,420 units. Sales of light commercial vehicles in India and overseas grew 32% on year to 7,700 units.

 

In Apr-Jan, Ashok Leyland's total vehicle sales, including exports, rose 13% on year to 172,899 units. This includes sales of 110,385 medium-heavy commercial vehicles, which were up 13% on year, and 62,514 light commercial vehicles, up 12% on year. The company sold 158,298 commercial vehicles in India, up 12% on year.

 

For the September quarter, Ashok Leyland had reported a net profit of INR 7.71 billion on revenue of INR 95.88 billion. On the National Stock Exchange, shares of the company closed almost 4% lower at INR 189.06.  End
