MUMBAI – TVS Motor Co. Ltd. Sunday said it sold 494,195 two-wheelers to dealerships in January, up 28% on year. This growth was led by a robust increase in sales of motorcycles as well as scooters, the company said in an exchange filing. Including three-wheelers, its sales in January grew 29% on year to 511,766 units.

 

The company sold 383,262 two-wheelers to dealerships in India, up 30% on year and 16% on month. Motorcycle sales grew 26% on year and only 1% on month to 219,188 units while scooter sales grew 30% on year and 13% on month to 222,926 units.

 

The company's three-wheeler sales jumped 77% on year but fell 14% on month to 17,571 units. TVS Motor sold 37,756 electric vehicles in January, up 50% on year. The company made no mention of the rare-earth magnet shortage affecting its electric vehicle operations.

 

Exports by TVS Motor in January fared well compared to the same month a year ago, but moderated when compared to December. The company sold 122,343 automobile units overseas, up 21% on year but down 16% on month. Of these, two-wheeler exports grew 18% on year but fell 15% on month to 110,933 units.

 

For the December quarter, TVS Motor reported a net profit of INR 9.40 billion on a revenue of INR 124.76 billion. At 1341 IST, shares of the company were down 1.4% at INR 3,628.70.  End
