Coal India Jan production grows 2.6% on year to 79.8 mln tn, sales fall 4.7%

MUMBAI – Coal India Ltd. reported a 4.7% on-year decline in its sales to 66.3 million tonnes in January, while coal production rose 2.6% on year to 79.8 million tonnes, according to the provisional data released by the company Sunday. For Apr-Jan, the company's offtake fell 3% on year to 612.1 million tonnes and the production was down 2% on year at 609 million tonnes. 

 

The company's subsidiary Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd. reported the highest provisional coal production numbers for the month at 22.4 million tonnes, up 1.3% on year. South Eastern Coalfields Ltd. was the second highest contributor to Coal India's overall production and reported a 13.4% on-year growth at 19.7 million tonnes for January. 

 

Mahanadi Coalfields was the front-runner in terms of sales among Coal India's subsidiaries, reporting an offtake of 17.9 million tonnes in January, but the sales were down nearly 4% on year. South Eastern Coalfields reported the second-highest sales figures of 16.4 million tonnes, up 2.6% on year. 

 

Coal India reported a consolidated net profit of INR 43.54 billion for the quarter ended September on a revenue of INR 301.87 billion. At 1256 IST, shares of the company were at INR 427.80, down 3%, on the National Stock Exchange.  End
