HYDERABAD - Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. Sunday said its overall wholesale sales of vehicles rose 24% on year to 104,309 in January. Domestic utility vehicle sales grew 25% on year to 63,510 units in January, the company said in a press release. The company's overall exports, including passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles, increased 5% on year to 3,577.
Sales of light commercial vehicles with load capacity below 2 tonnes rose 13% on year to 4,009 units in January, while sales of light commercial vehicles with a payload capacity between 2 and 3.5 tonnes rose 23% on year to 23,647 units. The company sold 9,566 three-wheelers in the domestic market in January, up 28% on year.
"Building on the strong momentum of last year's performance, we began the year on a strong note in January," said Nalinikanth Gollagunta, chief executive officer of the company's automotive division.
For Apr-Jan, the company sold 539,986 utility vehicles in India, up 19% on year. Sales of light commercial vehicles with load capacity below 2 tonnes fell 2% on year during the period to 31,425 units, while sales of light commercial vehicles with payload capacity between 2 and 3.5 tonnes rose 17% on year to 208,659 units. M&M's three-wheeler sales in India during Apr-Jan rose 28% on year to 92,012 units. The company's exports in Apr-Jan rose 23% on year to 33,638 units.
TRACTORS DIVISION
M&M's farm equipment business sold 40,643 tractors in January, up 47% on year. Of these, 38,484 units were sold in the domestic market, registering a growth of 46% on year. The remaining 2,159 units were sold in the overseas markets, up 72% on year.
For Apr-Jan, the company sold a total of 447,235 units, reflecting a rise of 23% on year. Sales at home grew at the same rate of 23% during the period to 430,374 units, while exports rose 24% on year to 16,861 units.
"High reservoir levels have supported record growth in rabi sowing. Expectations of government support and higher allocation in rural development in the Budget today (Sunday) should positively influence agriculture and farm mechanisation in the coming months," said Veejay Nakra, president of the company's farm equipment business.
For the September quarter, M&M reported a net profit of INR 45.21 billion on revenue of INR 350.80 billion.
At 1119 IST, M&M's shares were trading at INR 3,508.70 on the National Stock Exchange, up 2.2% from its previous close. End
